Cactus Flowers

The leaves and ripe fruit of this cactus are edible, once you take care of the prickly spines.  Known and appreciated by the Latin folks as Nopales & Tuna's.  

U-Turn

Look who was hanging out on my doorstep the other night.  It's a garden snake, non toxic, so I got in pretty close.  Alas, it didn't like the company or the flash light very much. And promptly made a u-turn, back to where it started.

Raw Berry Pie

Here we have California cuisine at it's best.  Awesomely delicious raw berry pie, decorated with edible flowers.  No wheat, no dairy, no sugar, no gluten and very, very good!

We have garden parties.  People swinging from the trees, and wielding big knifes to open young coconuts.

Sticky Monkey Flower

Another lovely horizon, beyond the  Sticky Leaf Monkey Flowers and Ceanothus in bloom.  Ceanothus is a powerful medicine used by the local Chumash Indians. These days it's known as California Lilac or See-I-know-this.  Seen off Tuna Cyn.

Jacaranda

I love June just because it's Jacaranda blooming season.  When huge trees drop their purple blossoms all over. Seen on Topanga Cyn Blvd in Woodland Hills.

We have hill top parties under the moon rise, as the cloud layer rolls up from the ocean.

Potluck

Linnea going in for seconds at the Topanga Historical Society's quarterly potluck & presentation meeting.  It's the best potluck in town because the local old timers still know how to cook.  And if they've given up cooking, at least they know what's good to order at the take out.
